Jesus Does Heal

About
I’ve been seeing a lot of YouTube videos and comments lately where people say they believe God either allows sickness or puts sickness on them to bring them closer to Him. I also see comments suggesting that sickness is a blessing—something that helps people remain dependent on God or puts them in a unique position to share the gospel with others who are sick. Oftentimes, people say that God is sovereign and that if He wants someone healed, nothing can stop Him—and that we can't "twist His arm" by trying to impress Him with our faith. But none of the above could be further from the truth.
Over the years, I’ve studied scriptures related to healing, and I’ve gathered some of them—along with explanations—and created a website so I can easily share this with others. I pray God speaks to you through His Word and encourages you. Please take time to study these scriptures for yourself—don’t just take my word for it. I recommend reading the entire chapter for each verse I list to gain deeper wisdom on the subject.
My goal here is to provide scriptures that refute the following statements:
• God allows or puts sickness on people to bring them closer to Him
• Our faith doesn’t matter in relation to healing, and we can’t do anything to receive healing
• Sickness can be a blessing
Please know this comes from a place of love, not condemnation. My heart is for people to know the truth. I myself have been healed from diseases, and I know how powerful God is. Don’t give up!
-Eric
God gave us free will:
God is sovereign and can do whatever He wants, but He chose to give us free will. If it weren’t set up that way, then we could only be saved if God wanted us to be, not because we believed. Read Acts 16:31. If we didn’t have free will, and faith didn’t matter, what would be the point of prayer then? Jesus Himself taught us how to pray in Matthew 6.
They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household. – Acts 16:31
Again, God is sovereign, but he chose to set it up so that we can either accept his finished work on the cross or deny it. We can either tie his hands or receive what he has already done for us.
What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet - Psalm 8:4-6
Remember, God created Adam and Eve never to die. They had everything they ever needed, and God told them not to eat the apple. If God were going to do whatever He wanted regardless, He wouldn’t have given them the option to eat or not to eat it. Their disobedience brought sin into the world, which introduced sickness and disease. While it's unfortunate for us, and what happened at the beginning of time isn't our fault, we live in a fallen world and have to deal with this. So while sickness does come, we can overcome it through faith in Him and His Word. Also, don’t forget we were made in the image of God and
God was never sick. (Genesis 1:27)
So God created mankind in his own image – Genesis 1:27
Faith and believing are required:
We don’t twist God’s arm by trying to impress Him with faith—we please God by having faith because He requires it. Please read Hebrews 11:6.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him – Hebrews 11:6
Also, God’s only requirement for healing throughout Jesus’s life was simply to believe.
Please read:
“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately, he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road. - Mark 10:52
Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.” - Luke 8:50
Mark 5:34 – “Daughter, your faith has healed you.”
So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately, the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.” The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up. After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer and fasting.” – Mark 9:20-29
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.- Matthew 21:22
Jesus did the will of his father and healed everybody who believed:
Jesus healed everyone who believed in the Bible. The only times He didn’t heal were when people didn’t believe (Matthew 13:58).
And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith – Matthew 13:58
Please read Galatians 3:5 – The Holy Spirit and healing are one and the same. Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit, and through the power of the Spirit, miracles happen.
So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard? – Galatians 3:5
If Jesus healed all who believed during His time on earth—and He said He only did what His Father's will was—then we know it's God's will to heal (John 6:38).
For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me – John 6:38
Since sickness is not God's will, we know it must come from the devil, who, according to the Bible, is the prince of this world. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8).
The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. – 1 John 3:8
Jesus wants us to bring heaven to earth:
Jesus instructed us to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Since God’s will is for us to be well—and there is no sickness in heaven—He told us to pray that what's in heaven would be done on earth. He gave us that choice and freedom to make this a reality through faith. We can choose to deny this or accept it and do what He wants. According to Luke 17:21, the Kingdom of God is within us.
nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” – Luke 17:21
God does not create sickness or put it on us:
If God created sickness and Jesus came to heal people, that would be a divided kingdom. The Pharisees accused Jesus of being a demon because He healed someone, and He explained that a kingdom divided cannot stand (Matthew 12).
But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.” Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. -Matthew 12:24-28
Forgiveness of sins and healing are as one:
When you believe in Jesus and accept Him as your Lord and Savior, you have salvation. Forgiveness of sins and healing are one—both were purchased on the cross by Jesus. Please read Isaiah 53:4–5 and Psalm 103:3–5.
Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. – Isaiah 53:4
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. – Psalm 103:3-5
Jesus Himself referenced this in Matthew 9 when He healed the paralytic man.
At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!” Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.” Then the man got up and went home. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe, and they praised God, who had given such authority to man. – Matthew 9:3-8
Jesus heals because he loves us, and he backed it up:
Jesus essentially said that even if you don’t believe in Him, believe in His works so that you’ll understand the Father is in Him (John 10:38). Healing was a byproduct of the Kingdom of God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus. Jesus never held seminars on healing—He simply healed people because He loved them and had compassion. He used miracles to demonstrate that love. So if Jesus Himself thought miracles were important to prove who He was, who are we to think otherwise?
But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.” – John 10:38
Jesus said that through faith, we can do even greater things than He did, through the Spirit. He called His church to lay hands on the sick and pray for healing. Read John 14:12 and James 5:14-16.
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. - John 14:12
Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. - James 5:14-16
We are called to be healed and to heal others:
Jesus called us to give because we have received. He commanded us to go out, believe, and heal the sick.
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give. - Matthew 10:8
And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” – Mark 16:17-18
There is hope:
At this point, you now understand how important faith is so do not lose it. Cling to the words of Jesus and the Bible and believe what you’ve heard, and you will be healed. Yes, I understand people are sick—and often for many years—and none of us fully understand that, but that doesn’t mean we should ignore the words of Jesus. Whether it’s 20 days or 20 years, we can be healed!
According to Isaiah 54:17, no weapon formed against you shall prevail. Make no mistake—it will be formed (sickness, pain, trials), but we can prevail.
no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me," declares the LORD. - Isaiah 54:17
We don’t have to be scared to hope for healing (Romans 5:5).
But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.” – Romans 5:5
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. – Hebrews 11:1
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. – Romans 12:12
Jesus does not use sickness to his advantage:
Jesus never made someone suffer physically to teach a lesson or to keep them dependent on Him. If that were His way, no one would want to follow Him. He is a loving God. If Jesus Himself used physical healing to show people who He was, how can we believe sickness is meant to help us share the gospel?
The word of God heals:
If you cling to the Word of God and have faith, your miracle will come. You have to read the Word of God because you need to know what God has promised you. In Jesus's day, people who needed healing walked up to Him and asked for it. Since Jesus isn’t physically with us anymore, what is the equivalent of having enough faith to go up to Jesus and ask Him for healing? The answer is reading His Word and believing what it says. But how can you believe what His Word says if you don’t read it? Please read Proverbs 4:20–22 and James 1:25.
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes, keep them in the midst of thine heart; for they are life unto those that find them and health to all their flesh. – Proverbs 4:20-22
But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. – James 1:25
He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. – Psalm 107:20
God’s Word cannot fail. So if He said, by His wounds we are healed (Isaiah 53), then that has to come to pass.
Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities;
The punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. – Isaiah 53:4-5
For no word from God will ever fail – Luke 1:37
More promises:
The Lord sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness. – Psalm 41:3
The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all – Psalm 34:19
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. – Proverbs 3:7-8
Jesus gave us authority over the devil:
We serve a high King, and sickness and symptoms will bow down to our King Jesus. He has given us authority over all of the power of the devil, and as we know, sickness is from the devil, not God.
He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. - Luke 10:18-19
